Analog models of physical phenomena

Description

Many physical phenomena are extremely interesting but not directly accessible; the prototype is the Hawking radiation from black holes.  To gain insight into some aspects of these phenomena it is possible to use the analogy with other physical systems that are easily accessible and that are (in most cases) analytically solvable.  I will mainly dwell on gravity analogues: a class of models used to reproduce some aspects of general relativity that makes manifest how gravity and geometry are intertwined.
