Description
Abstract:
Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) is a quantum phenomenon discovered theoretically by Albert Einstein in 1924. Its hallmark is a macroscopic occupation of a single quantum state in a gas of atoms obeying Bose statistics. Einstein’s original investigation concerned ideal gases but the effects of interactions between the atoms make the theoretical elucidation of BEC a very difficult problem that has occupied physicists and mathematicians for more than 70 years. In the lecture I shall review some results that have been obtained by various authors in the past two decades by means of rigorous mathematical analysis.
