An excursion exploring the natural beauty and historic landmarks in the vicinity of L'Aquila will be held after the conference ends on Saturday afternoon.
We will visit the village of Bominaco, 30 minutes by bus from L'Aquila's city center. Bominaco is recognized for two medieval churches built during the XII century. In particular, the rich frescoes found in the "Oratory of San Pellegrino", will provide an unexpected treasure. A broader description of the two churches is available here.
From there we will take a short walk, of about 20 minutes, in order to reach the ruins of the old Castle. The castle belonged to a larger complex of castles built to safeguard the territory, and offer a view of the surround mountains.
We will be leaving from GSSI at 13.30 and returning around 18. A guide will be accompanying us during the trip and the excursion.
