Low-Frequency Seismic Disturbances in CUORE: Marine Microseisms, Detector Response, and New Directions of Investigation

The sensitivity of CUORE bolometers to mechanical disturbances makes the detector susceptible also to ambient seismic noise. In particular, variations in the noise level below 1 Hz have been observed in correlation with microseismic activity associated with ocean wave motion.  

The seminar will retrace the experimental path that led to the identification of this correlation and will present the methods used to compare detector data with seismic observations. Ongoing studies aim at distinguishing the contribution of the marine source from the local site response at the Gran Sasso National Laboratories will also be presented, together with the investigation of their possible role in the transmission of low-frequency noise to the detector.
