Explicit methods that conserve three invariants for dispersive wave equations

  • David Ketcheson (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology)

Description

I will describe a new class of methods that is essentially explicit and provides global conservation of mass, momentum, and energy for some dispersive wave equations. The methods are based on Fourier Galerkin discretization in space along with a new relaxation-projection method in time. Numerical tests show that these methods outperform existing approaches by orders of magnitude and offer advantages for long-time simulations.
This is joint work with Hendrik Ranocha.
