Description

I will discuss some problems arising in the analysis of a class of variational problems which exhibit higher co-dimension singularities. Prototypical examples are minimal surfaces in higher co-dimensions, solutions to obstacle problems with lower dimensional constraints, optimal partition problems, systems of strongly competing species, harmonic maps into singular spaces, and many others.

In the talk I will introduce the main analytical questions related to the analysis of singularities for the solutions of such problems, explaining what are the common difficulties, the role of the co-dimension and the main open challenges.
