Abstract: In all fields of particle physics, the physics reach of the experiments is and will remain closely linked with progress in detector R&D. On the other hand, future experiments pose extremely challenging requirements to the detection systems. Some examples will be discussed, covering applications to High Energy Physics, Astroparticle Physics, Dark Matter search and Neutrino physics.
